2012 NATIONAL DEBATE CLINICS FOR ARKANSAS Substantially Increasing U.S. Transportation Infrastructure Investment

Dear Debate Coach:

The National Debate Clinic is pleased to announce that a clinic will be held in your area in 2012. The clinics are conducted by Dr. William B. English (Director of Speech Communication, Baylor University).

The purpose of the 2012 NDC is to provide a thorough analysis of the 2012-2013 National High School Debate proposition on Substantially Increasing U.S. Transportation Infrastructure Investment.

SPECIAL PROGRAM FEATURES INCLUDE:

  • Interesting and stimulating presentations designed to promote thorough understanding of the significant issues of the current policy (cross-x) topic.

  • A copy of the National Debate Clinic briefs for each program participant. The NDC briefs contain approximately 150 pages of first and second negative positions arguing against the most popular areas of the topic. The briefs are prepared in August after the topic has been debated at summer workshops.

  • Programs are designed for both beginning and advanced debaters. Students who have not participated in a summer workshop will be able to grasp the significant issues on the new topic. Debaters who have attended summer programs can expand their perceptions and understanding of the topic.

  • Presentation of affirmative cases and strategies.

  • Emphasis on negative strategies and arguments against affirmative cases.

  • Presentation of generic disadvantages which can be used against a variety of affirmative cases, as well as strategies and arguments that can be employed against these generic disadvantages.

  • Opportunity for questions by program participants.

  • Other source materials [analysis and evidence books] on the National Cross-X Topic will be available for

examination and/or purchase at the clinic. School purchase orders are accepted for these materials.

  • The NDC is a program which will provide understanding of the policy (cross-x) topic and stimulate student interest in debate.

    COST OF THE CLINIC:

There is a $25 registration fee per participant (coach or student). This fee covers the cost of the seminar and the National Debate Clinic Briefs to be presented to each participant. All students and/or teachers who attend the clinic will be charged a $25 fee. We cannot accommodate observers or extra students. Fees may accompany your entry or may be paid at registration on the day of the clinic. Checks should be made payable to the National Debate Clinic.
